Coyotes thrive in urban areas such as Silicon Valley. Here, we use sightings to help us identify local coyote territories. This map can assist with wildlife management.
-
Sightings sourced from social media, iNaturalist, local vector control, and our own form.
-
Please note that not all sightings have precisely accurate locations and dates.
-
The numbers on each sighting are the date that the sighting occurred. Sightings have been tracked from October 2024 onward.
-
The outlined figures are estimates of each coyote territory. Each coyote territory is home to one family, typically consisting of around 2-6 coyotes. Not all territories have been mapped due to lack of sightings.
-
Some territories have colored pins - each color codes for an individual coyote. We are able to track individuals when we have multiple photos of them.

Click on each territory to view the number of coyotes in that territory, reports of human-coyote conflict (mainly coyotes attacking pets), and other interesting information.
